How do I find a movie near me?

You can search for current or future movies in the "Get Movie Showtimes & Tickets" search box at the top left of every page. Select a movie in the “Choose your Movie” pulldown and click “Go.” You will see a list of movies that includes that name. If the movie you wish to see is not in the pulldown menu, click on the “Advance Search” link underneath. Here you can type in your movie title and click “Search”. Clicking on the appropriate movie title link will display more details about that movie. To find showtimes for this movie, enter your zip code in the tabbed area in the middle of the page. Click "Go" and this area will be replaced with the theaters that are playing this movie. You may need to increase the search radius to find a particular theater.

How do I find a theater near me?

You can search for movie theaters in the "Get Movie Showtimes & Tickets" search box at the top left of every page. You will see a list of theaters in your area in a 15-mile radius. Click on a theater name to show its theater information, including showtimes and location.

Buying Tickets Online

How do I purchase movie tickets on MovieTickets.com?

Once you have found the theater and movie for which you want to purchase tickets, click on a hyperlinked, blue showtime link or a hyperlinked, blue "Buy Tickets" link. If you choose the "Buy Tickets" link, you will then be asked to choose a showtime for the movie and theater you have selected. After clicking on a showtime, select your ticket types and quantities. You will be asked to sign in or, if you are new to MovieTickets.com, register before you can complete the transaction process.

How can I tell which theaters offer tickets for sale online?

Theaters that offer their tickets for sale online will have their theater name and showtimes hyperlinked and blue. All other theaters will be gray. You can see all of MovieTickets.com’s partners at http://www.movietickets.com/partners.asp.

Why are some showtimes hyperlinked while others are grayed out?

Showtimes that are hyperlinked and blue indicate those are available for purchase. Showtimes that are grayed out indicate that either the showtime is in the past, the show has been sold out, or tickets are not available for purchase on MovieTickets.com.

Can I buy movie tickets for future dates?

Absolutely! We feature advance ticket sales on MovieTickets.com. To search for a showtime in the future, just select a different date in the search box. The number of days in advance that you can buy tickets for a film varies by theater and by movie.

Generally, a theater's release schedule for a movie runs from Friday to Thursday. Showtimes for this theater generally appear on Wednesday. However, for a blockbuster release that is in high demand, tickets and showtimes may be available up to a month in advance. Schedules are set by each individual theater, not by MovieTickets.com, so please check back frequently if the movie you are looking for is not yet for sale in your area.

Which showtimes offer bargain/matinee prices?

Bargain and matinee showtimes and prices vary by theater. To determine the price of a ticket, please click on the hyperlinked showtime. All available ticket prices are displayed on the page.

Why am I only able to order tickets for certain theaters?

Tickets are available for purchase on MovieTickets.com from our partners. We are adding new theaters frequently, so please check back regularly. If your favorite theater is not listed, please contact the theater manager to let them know you wish to purchase their movie tickets on MovieTickets.com!

What is the price of a movie ticket?

The ticket price is set by the theater chain. As a result, prices will vary for each theater. Once the theater and showtime for the movie you wish to purchase tickets for is determined, the prices and ticket types for that showtime will appear on the first transaction page.

As with the ticket price, the theater determines their service fee. These fees are also displayed on the transaction page next to the ticket price.

Why is there a service charge added to the ticket price?

The nominal fee set by each theater covers the convenience and costs associated with purchasing your tickets on MovieTickets.com. You may enjoy such conveniences as bypassing the box office lines, buying advance tickets to hot movies, and being assured that you will not be turned away from a sold out show. Also you have free access to showtimes, movie and theater information for almost every theater.

The service fee associated with your order is displayed to the left of the ticket price on the transaction page where you select your ticket type and quantity.

Can I change my ticket order during the checkout process?

Yes, you may change your order at any time during the transaction process prior to confirming the purchase. Just click on the "Change" link at the top right of any purchase page you wish to edit. This will take you back to the section you wish to edit, then you may continue on with the transaction.

I did not receive a confirmation email. How can I tell if my order was processed?

Once you have logged into your account, click on the "Order History" tab. On this page you will be able to see ticket transactions from the last 30 days, including if there was a problem with the order and a link to re-print your confirmation page and/or print out your at-home tickets.

How can I find out the status of my order and if my credit card was charged?

If the confirmation screen displayed the text, "Congratulations! Your Tickets Were Purchased Successfully." your order was successful and your credit card was charged. You will receive an email confirmation of your order as well.

You may check your orders via the Order History page. Once you have logged into your account, click on the "Order History" tab. On this page you will be able to see ticket transactions from the last 30 days, including if there was a problem with the order and a link to re-print your confirmation page and/or print out your at home tickets.

Once a purchase has been confirmed, can I make changes to my order or get a refund?

Select theaters offer refunds or exchanges, so please confirm your movie, theater and showtime as well as read over all sales disclaimers, pickup instructions, and refund policies pertaining to the particular theater before clicking on the "Purchase" button. If you need to contact someone about your order, please contact us via the customer service form or call us toll free at 1-888-440-8457 for immediate assistance.

Which credit cards does MovieTickets.com accept?

Each theater chain determines which credit cards they will accept. When you are ready to make your purchase, the transaction page will have a pull down list of all the credit cards they will process.

Can I purchase tickets with my credit card's Internet security protection feature or "single use" card?

For security purposes, you must use the actual credit card number imprinted on the credit card and that same card must be presented at the theater. Please note if a "temporary or single use" card number is used, which is different from the imprinted credit card number, you will be unable to retrieve your tickets at the theater.

What is the "Card ID"?

To help guard against fraud, the major credit card companies have implemented a security feature for "card not present" transactions to ensure the credit card is actually in the possession of the user during the time of the transaction. The "Card ID" is a three or four digit, non-embossed (flat) number printed on the front or back of the credit card that provides an extra level of security for you and MovieTickets.com. This number is not stored in the magnetic stripe or by MovieTickets.com, nor does it appear on sales receipts or statements.

"Card ID" is a generic term for this security feature. Visa and Electron call this security feature "CVV2" (Card Verification Value 2). MasterCard, Eurocard, Maestro, and Solo call this security feature "CVC2" (Card Validation Code 2). American Express and Discover call this security feature "CID" (Card Identification Number).

Where is the "Card ID" located?

Visa / MasterCard / Discover
For Visa/Electron (CVV2), MasterCard/Eurocard/Maestro/Solo (CVC2), and Discover (CID), the "Card ID" is a 3-digit, non-embossed (raised), reverse italics number printed on the signature panel on the back of the card immediately following the 16-digit credit card number. Sometimes, only the last 4-digits of the credit number are listed before the "Card ID".

American Express
For American Express (CID), the "Card ID" is a 4-digit, non-embossed (flat) number printed on the front of every American Express Card on either the left or right side. The "Card ID" is always located above the embossed (raised) credit card number on the face of the card. In some instances, the "Card ID" is located on the left side of the credit card, but is always above the account number. Some cards have a four-digit number embossed below the account number, but this is not the CID number.

What if I cannot locate the "Card ID" or my credit card does not have a "Card ID" number?

If you cannot locate your "Card ID" number on your credit card, please call MovieTickets.com customer service at 1-888-440-8457.

If your credit card does not have a "Card ID" number, please contact your bank or card issuer for more details.

Can I purchase student or military tickets on MovieTickets.com?

Currently, student and military tickets are not available for purchase online. Those ticket types require ID and are only available at the theater box office.

Can I purchase gift certificates online or use gift certificates I purchased at the theater?

At this time, MovieTickets.com does not offer or redeem online gift certificates. However, you may be able to purchase gift certificates online through the websites for specific theater chains and redeem them at the theater box office.

Do you offer group discount tickets?

Unfortunately, MovieTickets.com does not offer group discounts on tickets. You may explore the theater company websites to see if they offer any group discounts, which would be redeemed at the box office.

Receiving your Tickets

How and where do I pick up my movie tickets?

Movie tickets purchased on MovieTickets.com can be picked up at the theater box office or through an Automated Box Office machine located in the lobby or outside of certain theaters. Tickets can be picked up the day they are purchased; you do not have to wait until the day of show if you are purchasing tickets in advance. For some theaters, you also can print your tickets on your personal printer. Please review your order confirmation page generated by the web site for specific instructions on how to pick up tickets at the theater that you are attending. Please be sure to bring the same credit card you used to purchase the tickets with you to the theater.

What do I need to bring to the theater to retrieve my tickets?

If you have purchased tickets that need to be picked up at the theater, you must bring the credit card used to purchase the tickets to the theater with you. You do not need to bring the email confirmation with you. If you have printed your tickets at home, simply bring the bar coded printout with you and give it to the ticket taker.

Do I need my tracking number to retrieve my tickets?

You may print the confirmation page (which includes the tracking number and other details of your purchase) for your own information, but you will not be required to present the number at the theater to retrieve your tickets. Your credit card will allow you to pick up the tickets you have purchased.

I closed my browser before printing my confirmation page/Print at Home ticket. How can I find out the status of my order and if my credit card was charged?

If the confirmation screen displayed the text, "Purchase Confirmed," your order was successful and your credit card was charged. If for any reason you did not see this screen or you didn't receive an email confirmation and would like to verify your order, please log into your account and check your order history or call us toll free at 1-888-440-8457 for immediate assistance.

To see your order history, once you have logged into your account, click on the "Order History" tab. On this page you will be able to see ticket transactions from the last 30 days, including if there was a problem with the order and a link to re-print your confirmation page and/or print out your tickets.

If I am purchasing my tickets online, why must I still arrive early to the theater?

Most theaters do not offer reserved seating; therefore, even though you are guaranteed a seat, it is suggested that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the movie to get a good seat.

What do the different movie ratings mean?

G - General Audiences - All ages admitted - This signifies that the film rated contains nothing most parents will consider offensive for even their youngest children to see or hear. Nudity, sex scenes, and scenes of drug use are absent; violence is minimal; snippets of dialogue may go beyond polite conversation but do not go beyond common everyday expressions.

PG - Parental Guidance Suggested - Some material may not be suitable for children - This signifies that the film rated may contain some material parents might not like to expose to their young children - material that will clearly need to be examined or inquired about before children are allowed to attend the film. Explicit sex scenes and scenes of drug use are absent; nudity, if present, is seen only briefly, horror and violence do not exceed moderate levels.

PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned - Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13 - This signifies that the film rated may be inappropriate for pre-teens. Parents should be especially careful about letting their younger children attend. Rough or persistent violence is absent; sexually-oriented nudity is generally absent; some scenes of drug use may be seen; one use of the harsher sexually derived words may be heard.

R - Restricted - Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian (age varies in some locations) - This signifies that the rating board has concluded that the film rated contains some adult material. Parents are urged to learn more about the film before taking their children to see it. An R may be assigned due to, among other things, a film's use of language, theme, violence, sex or its portrayal of drug use.

NC-17 - No One 17 and Under Admitted - This signifies that the rating board believes that most American parents would feel that the film is patently adult and that children age 17 and under should not be admitted to it. The film may contain explicit sex scenes, an accumulation of sexually-oriented language, or scenes of excessive violence. The NC-17 designation does not, however, signify that the rated film is obscene or pornographic.
