Tuesday, November 27, 2012 - Oscar-nominated producer John Kemeny has passed away at the age of 87.

He died on Friday (23Nov12) in Sedona, Arizona after a long illness.

Born in Hungary, Kemeny moved to Canada in 1957 and two years later began working at the National Film Board as an editor, producer, and writer.

He gained notoriety in 1980 for Susan Sarandon film Atlantic City, which received five Academy Awards nominations. His other movie credits include Quest for Fire, Ice Castles, Don=E2=80=99t Let the Angels Fall, The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz, featuring Richard Dreyfuss, and The Boy in

Blue, starring Nicolas Cage.

He was also nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards, one for 1989 TV special Murderers Among Us: The Simon Wiesenthal Story and again for The Josephine Baker Story in 1991, the same year he was honoured by bosses at the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television with a special achievement trophy at the Genie Awards.
