KARL LAGERFELD USES CHANEL SHOW TO SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE
Wednesday, January 23, 2013 - Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld made a public declaration in support of gay marriage in France by dedicating the finale of his Chanel runway show to the issue.
The legendary designer displayed his latest collection for the brand at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday (22Jan13) and he closed the show by sending two brides down the runway.
The female models wore matching wedding gowns and held hands, and they were also accompanied by Lagerfeld's four-year-old godson, who was dressed as
a page boy.
When asked whether the stunt was a reflection of his support of gay marriage, the designer told the Associated Press, "Of course it was. I don't even understand the debate."
He added, "I do not understand why people who live together cannot have the same security as those bourgeois who are married. Two women getting married, I find that natural, and having two mothers is a good thing."
Lagerfeld's display comes a week after hundreds of protesters marched through Paris to demonstrate against French President Francois Hollande's plans to legalise same-sex marriages in the country.
