ASHLEY JUDD FUELS TALK OF U.S. SENATE RUN WITH WASHINGTON, D.C. MEETING
Friday, February 22, 2013 - Actress Ashley Judd has fuelled reports she's preparing to run for political office in 2014 after meeting with representatives from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) this week (begs18Feb13).
The Double Jeopardy star has already received a vote of confidence from Kentucky Democrats after emerging as their candidate of choice in a survey in December , and now it seems she may be ready to take the Democratic Party up on the offer to challenge Republican Mitch McConnell for his seat in the U.s. Senate.
Judd was recently spotted in Washington, D.C. with members of the DSCC, which supports those running for the post, according to Politico.com.
She also dined with top Democrats in her former home state of Kentucky, where she attended university, last Thursday (14Feb13), and reportedly told Congressman John Yarmuth and guests that she was "leaning toward" a run for
Rumours about Judd's interest in the job even prompted McConnell supporters to attack her in a new advertisement, warning voters about her "radical Hollywood liberal" views and suggesting she is out of touch with the state because she lives in neighbouring Tennessee.
However, the actress - who spoke as a Tennessee delegate in September (12) when she attended the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina - recently split from her race car driver husband Dario Franchitti, potentially paving the way for her to relocate to Kentucky to start afresh.
A statement released by Judd's representatives in response to the negative campaign read: "Ashley thanks Senator McConnell, (political adviser) Karl
Rove, and their negative allies for all the attention as she considers her
future political plans, although a decision hasn't been made yet."
