Friday, February 22, 2013 - British airline mogul Richard Branson has generously pledged to donate at least half of his $4 billion (=C2£2.6 billion) fortune to charity.

The Virgin boss has signed the Giving Pledge initiative, started by fellow billionaires Warren Buffet and Bill Gates and his wife Melinda in 2010, which encourages rich individuals to share their wealth with good causes.

In a statement, the father-of-two writes, "'Stuff' really is not what brings happiness. Family, friends, good health and the satisfaction that comes

from making a positive difference are what really matters. Happily our children, who will be our principal heirs, agree with me on this."

Branson adds that money taken from his holdings in Virgin Group will be invested in "collaborative" charities that work with groups and governments to "create a healthy, equitable and peaceful world".
