STUART HALL'S SENTENCE DOUBLED
Friday, July 26, 2013 - Veteran British broadcaster Stuart Hall has been given a further 15 months in prison for his child abuse conviction after judges in the U.K. doubled his sentence.
The 83-year-old former BBC sports presenter was jailed for 15 months in June for sex attacks on children as young as nine, dating back to the 1960s.
Britain's Attorney General referred the case to the Court of Appeal earlier this month (Jul13) after receiving complaints the sentence was too lenient, and on Friday (26Jul13) a panel of judges ruled it should be increased.
Doubling the sentence to 30 months, the court officials announced Hall's punishment should take in to account the seriousness of the offences and the fact he was in a position of trust when he abused his victims.
Hall, who also presented popular British game show It's a Knockout during
his career, pled guilty to 14 charges of indecent assault, admitting inappropriately kissing and groping 13 girls aged between nine and 17 years old. Most of the victims were daughters of Hall's friends and acquaintances.
