Friday, August 23, 2013 - Funnyman Eddie Izzard is reaching out to fans to publicise the plight of child refugees in Syria following reports of chemical weapons attacks this week (ends23Aug13).

Human rights groups fear up to a million children have been forced to flee their homeland as it teeters on the brink of civil war amid clashes between government troops and rebel forces.

Officials at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have launched a campaign to publicise the refugees' plight, and Izzard addressed the issue on Twitter.com on Friday (23Aug13) to drum up support among his fans.

He posted a link to a page detailing UNICEF's Children of Syria campaign,

alongside the message, "Awful to hear 1million child refugees fled Syria violence. Lost everything. Pls RT (please re-tweet) this image."
