Wednesday, October 09, 2013 - Tom Hanks ' recent diabetes diagnosis has prompted the movie star to reconsider manipulating his weight for film roles, because he doesn't want to risk

his health for a part.

The Oscar winner famously slimmed down for his role as an AIDS victim in 1993's Philadelphia, while he had to pack on the pounds for the start of filming in Castaway in 2000, and then embark on a strict diet to portray a man starving on a desert island.

However, the 57 year old, who recently revealed he suffers from Type-2 diabetes, admits he has since turned his back on jobs which require extreme dieting, because his body just can't take it.

He tells the Bbc, "i've talked to a number of actors who have gained weight for roles and - just out of the sheer physical toll on one's knees and shoulders - no one wants to do it again.

"I think that's more or less a young man's game. I'm 57 and I don't think

I'm going to take on any job... and see to it that I can gain 30 pounds."
