MARIA DE VILLOTA FOUND DEAD IN HOTEL ROOM
Friday, October 11, 2013 - Racing driver Maria De Villota has died just 15 months after losing an eye in a horror crash.
The Spanish sports star was found dead in a hotel room in Seville, Spain while on a promotional tour for her autobiography. The cause of death was still unclear as WENN went to press, but local police are treating it as natural causes.
The 33-year-old former Formula 1 ace lost her right eye in a horrific accident in Cambridgeshire, England last year when she ploughed into a truck while test driving an MR-01 race car.
A statement on De Villota's Facebook.com page, signed by her family, reads, "Dear friends: Maria has left us. She had to go to heaven like all angels. We are thankful to God for the extra year and a half that he left her with us."
