THE WOLF OF WALL STREET TOPS U.K. BOX OFFICE CHART

Tuesday, January 21, 2014 - Martin Scorsese's Oscar-nominated movie The Wolf Of Wall Street has struck gold at the U.K. box office after taking $7.36 million (=C2£4.6 million) in its opening weekend.

The dark comedy, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as disgraced sex-and-drugs obsessed New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort, knocked last week's top film, 12 Years A Slave, into second place with $4.8 million (=C2£3 million).

American Hustle rounds out the new top three with $2.4 million .

All three films will be big contenders at the Academy Awards in March (14) - they each scored a slew of nominations, including the prestigious Best Picture honour, when the shortlist was announced last week (16Jan14).
