MOVIETICKETS.COM ADDS AMC ENTERTAINMENT'S NEWLY ACQUIRED THEATRES TO ITS ONLINE MOVIE TICKETING SERVICE
Online movie ticketing site expands its reach with the addition of 689 former General Cinema and Gulf States screens
(Hollywood, CA - April 8, 2002) – MovieTickets.com announced today the addition of 689 former General Cinema and Gulf States theatre screens to its online movie ticketing service. The move follows the acquisition of General Cinema Theatres and Gulf States Theatres by AMC Entertainment Inc., a MovieTickets.com partner. The addition of these new screens further expands the reach of MovieTickets.com and strengthens MovieTickets.com's position in the key markets of Chicago, Boston, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C.
The new screen additions, tickets for which will be sold exclusively by MovieTickets.com, further contribute to the site's elite list of theaters. Other MovieTickets.com theater partners include National Amusements, Famous Players, Hoyts Cinemas and Marcus Theatres.
Through AMC Entertainment's acquisition of General Cinemas and Gulf States Theatres, MovieTickets.com continues to increase its national footprint, bringing its online movie ticketing services to additional markets across the U.S.," said Mitchell Rubenstein, Co-CEO of MovieTickets.com. "More than ever, consumers are turning to the Internet to purchase movie tickets. And, MovieTickets.com continues to be the premier destination for movie show times, information and ticketing." According to Rubenstein, 614 of the newly added screens are now available on the site, and the remaining 75 screens are scheduled to be available May 2.
The new "ticketable" screens will be posted on the site in time for moviegoers to buy tickets for the expected Summer 2002 blockbusters. To purchase tickets online, users can click on www.MovieTickets.com, enter their zip code to find nearby theaters, select a movie title and showtime, and buy tickets with a credit card. After purchasing the tickets, movie-goers can simply go to the theater's box office and pick up their tickets. In addition, MovieTickets.com is rolling-out at home ticket printing, which provides consumers even more convenience when going to the movies.
Through the Web site's Quick Checkout service, MovieTickets.com also allows its customers to register with the Web site to easily purchase tickets without entering their credit card information every time. The site employs the latest technology to ensure data security, offer its customers not only convenient transactions, but also piece of mind. MovieTickets.com owns both the MovieTickets.com and MovieTicket.com URLs to ensure that moviegoers can easily locate the site.
