FANGIRLS PROPEL NICHE FILM ‘TWILIGHT’ INTO MOVIETICKETS.COM TOP-10 PRE-SALE LIST OF ALL TIME

Sellouts at MovieTickets.com Top 1,100 Performances

(Los Angeles, CA - November 20, 2008) – Fervent fans of “Twilight” – many of them tween and teen girls and their mothers – are not taking chances when it comes to guaranteeing a seat in their local movie theater this weekend. Online movie ticketing provider MovieTickets.com reports that the movie, which has sold out more than 1,100 performances at MovieTickets.com, has ascended into the No. 10 spot on its Top-10 Pre-Sale List of All Time.

The success of “Twilight” at the online box office has been largely due to a resurgent teen and tween demographic of veritable fangirls – a demo that has appeared in mass in 2008 helping “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour” and “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” become two of MovieTickets.com Top-20 pre-sellers of all-time. With 86 percent of Under-25 moviegoers and 81 percent of females planning to see the film opening weekend, “Twilight” now sits alongside venerable box office heavyweights such as “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter” and “Lord of the Rings” on the MovieTickets.com top pre-sale list.

MovieTickets.com’s Top 10 Pre-Sale List of All-Time (as of 11/20/08):

  • Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
  • The Dark Knight
  • Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • The Matrix Reloaded
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
  • Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
  • Twilight

“The pre-release buzz surrounding ‘Twilight’ and the subsequent record number of tickets being sold at MovieTickets.com clearly demonstrates and showcases the value and impact of online movie ticketing,” said Joel Cohen, executive vice president and general manager for MovieTickets.com. “This rush of early ticket purchases, especially among the youth demographic, is evidence that we will continue to see a steady shift in consumers using the Web to purchase their movie tickets.”
