MOVIETICKETS.COM TAKES A BITE OF ‘TWILIGHT’ TICKETS SOLD OPENING WEEKEND
Online Ticketing Continues Upward Trend as Vampire Flick Becomes Top-5 Pre-seller
(Los Angeles, CA - November 22, 2008) – Less than a year after “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” rode a largely teen and tween female demographic to pre-sale superstardom at MovieTickets.com (www.movietickets.com), fangirls are once again turning box office hysteria into online movie ticketing history. MovieTickets.com estimates that its sales for the vampire flick will account for approximately 10 percent of the movie’s estimated $74 million opening weekend.
“Twilight” became the third non-tent-pole turned blockbuster to crack MovieTickets.com’s list of the Top-20 Pre-Sellers of All-Time. The film, which was selling up to 20 tickets per second at peak periods and sold-out more than 1,100 screenings at MovieTickets.com prior to its release, rubbed elbows with “Harry Potter,” “The Dark Knight” and “Lord of the Rings” Thursday night, becoming the No. 5 pre-seller of all time.
MovieTickets.com’s Top-5 Pre-Sale List of All-Time:
“The process of buying movie tickets has undergone a dramatic change in the last year,” said Joel Cohen, executive vice president and general manager for MovieTickets.com. “Thanks to an emerging generation of online ticket buyers and well executed online marketing campaigns, lesser known films, such as ‘Twilight,’ can effectively establish themselves in the mass markets and become one of the most talked about movies of the season.”
