'Dunkirk' Wins Box Office for a Second Week in a Row

Dunkirk has battled its way to the top of the North American box office for a second weekend in a row.

Christopher Nolan's World War II epic has earned $28.1 million to take the top spot this weekend. The movie has surpassed $200 million worldwide. Dunkirk, which stars Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, and Cillian Murphy, is based on the 1940 Allied evacuation from the beaches of Dunkirk in France.

The Emoji Movie
comes in second with $25.7 million. The movie, which features the voices of Anna Faris, Maya Rudolph, Christina Aguilera, Sofia Vergara and Patrick Stewart, was hit with poor reviews from critics, but Sony network executives are happy with its performance.

"We are thrilled the audience has spoken and embraced The Emoji Movie," Sony president of worldwide marketing and distribution Josh Greenstein says.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah's Girls Trip takes the third spot with $20.1 million, while Charlize Theron's Atomic Blonde comes in fourth with $18.6 million. The Monster star plays spy Lorraine Broughton in the film, which is a long-time passion project for the actress.

"We're very happy with the opening," Lisa Bunnell, distribution chief at Focus Features, says. "I feel this movie is going to have legs to it."

Earlier this week, Charlize revealed she was in talks to reprise her role in a prequel or sequel.

"We're actively talking about where we could go with a sequel or a prequel," she told Variety. "The great thing about Lorraine is that she is such an enigma. We really didn't saddle her with anything, so that leaves us a lot of ways to go and continue her story."
