Aug 10, 2017 by: WENN
Riz Ahmed s reportedly in talks to appear in the Spider-Man movie spin-off Venom.
Following a breakout year in 2016, having appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and HBO television series The Night Of, the actor is now circling a role in Sony's latest project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ahmed is in negotiations to join Tom Hardy, who is portraying the title character, but no other details have been revealed.
Insiders claim that he will not be playing the villain Carnage, but will be tackling another popular figure from the Marvel Comics universe.
Venom's script is being penned by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, and while details are scarce, Sony executives have previously stated that the film will be separate from the Spider-Man universe, including the recent Spider-Man: Homecoming.
In the comic books, Venom is a photographer named Eddie Brock, who turns into Venom after having his body taken over by a symbiote, a fictional alien parasite. He originally sets out to destroy Spider-Man, but subsequently becomes an ally, and appears alongside many other Marvel Comics' characters.
Hardy signed on for the role in May, but the character was first introduced on the big screen in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, where he was portrayed by Topher Grace.
Meanwhile, Ahmed will next be seen alongside Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn in the indie drama Una, and is currently shooting Jacques Audiard's The Sisters Brothers with Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, and John C. Reilly.
Venom, to be directed by Ruben Fleischer, is slated to open in October 2018.
