Kurt Russell Accidentally Called Star-Lord 'Star Wars' on Guardians Set

Kurt Russell repeatedly messed up takes on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 after constantly referring to Chris Pratt's character as Star Wars.
The Hateful Eight veteran joined the cast of the Marvel comic book adaptation for its recent sequel, portraying Ego, the Living Planet, the father of Pratt's character Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord.
However, Russel struggled to get used to calling his onscreen son by his nickname--as shown in the blooper reel compiled for the film's upcoming release on Blu-ray.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in one outtake, the 66-year-old recites his lines, saying, "Well, even where I reside out past the edge of what's known, we've heard tales about the man they call Star Wars."
After messing up the first time, he jokes, "We could be in trouble."
Russel's prediction was right as he continued to flub his dialogue: "We've heard tales of the man they call Star Wars," the actor said as he began to get frustrated with himself. "Ugh. Yes, Star Wars. He's all of Star Wars. We've heard of the movie Star Wars."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has since shared his thoughts on the footage of Russel's outtakes in a post on Twitter, admitting the mix-up was funny to watch.
Sharing a link to The Hollywood Reporter article about Russel's flubs, Gunn commented, "Haha he really did. That was the weirdest thing."
Ironically, Russel previously auditioned for a role in the Star Wars franchise back in the 1970s, as filmmaker George Lucas searched for the perfect Han Solo for 1977's A New Hope, the first movie in the original sci-fi trilogy. The key part went to Harrison Ford, who reprised his role for two sequels, and again for 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
