'Wonder Woman' Tops $800 Million at International Box Office Thanks to Japanese Fans

Wonder Woman has romped to $400 million at the box office outside North America thanks to a great start in Japan.

The hit summer blockbuster has opened with a $3.4 million box office take in the Far East to tip Gal Gadot's comic book movie over the $400 million mark.

Director Patty Jenkins' history-making movie has now raked in over $806 million at the worldwide box office.

But that's not the biggest movie news breaking in the Asian market place--director Luc Besson's U.S. film flop Valerian & the City of a Thousand Planets has stunned film experts by debuting at the top of the Chinese market.

The film opened with a healthy $28.9 million to steal number one away from Wolf Warrior 2, which has been number one in China since its release last month.

Overall, the international box office may have saved Besson's ambitious comic book adaptation--the film has now passed the $100 million mark following a very disappointing start in North America.

Valerian opens in South Korea later this week.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise has another international hit on his hands--his new movie American Made opened at number one in 10 countries and ended Dunkirk's five-week run at number one in the U.K.

American Made also hit the top of the box office in Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Poland, Romania, Sweden, and Taiwan.
