Kate Winslet: 'I've Just Made My The Revenant'

Titanic star Kate Winslet feels like a true survivor after putting her comfort levels to the test while filming bleak new movie The Mountain Between Us.

The actress and Idris Elba play strangers who work together to survive after a plane crash on a remote mountain, and she insists her filming experiences were similar to those pal Leonardo DiCaprio faced while making The Revenant, for which he earned his first Best Actor Oscar.

"We weren’t ready for how hard those environments were to actually work in," the Brit told People. "I’ve heard Leo say similar things about The Revenant

"We had quite a lot of crew who were from that film, and they did go so far as to say that this is tougher, which we were quite proud of."

Kate reveals it was so cold on set in Vancouver, Canada, her brain froze regularly and she forgot her lines: "Oh my God, there are so many outtakes where I'm literally like, 'Brings back memories!'" she said of the big chill. "There was a Titanic memory at least once a day."

Winslet and DiCaprio famously struggled to keep warm in the final scenes of James Cameron's blockbuster disaster movie.

The actress isn't new to testing her survival skills--she was among the stars who tackled the wilderness with expert Bear Grylls as part of his Running Wild series back in 2015.

She climbed down a cliff face with her fellow Brit in Snowdonia National Park in Wales and also ate cooked earthworms, lit a fire using a tampon, and removed a decapitated fish from between her breasts after Grylls jokingly threw it down her top after cutting off its head.

Grylls poked fun at Winslet, saying, "It's like taking Mary Poppins on steroids on a camping trip," but also praised her survival skills, adding, "She's tough, she's fun and she's also so modest."
