A Sixth Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Could Become Reality
Sep 5, 2017 by: WENN
Hollywood super producer Jerry Bruckheimer has teased Pirates of the Caribbean 6 could be in the pipeline.
The fifth instalment in the swashbuckling franchise, known as either Salazar’s Revenge or Dead Men Tell No Tales, hit screens in May following a six-year break. It reunited Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow with original stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. Geoffrey Rush and Stephen Graham also returned.
Talking about the success of movie number five, Jerry admitted to Yahoo the $791million in worldwide takings may have been less than what the fourth film took, but it was still a great success financially.
"I mean, you’re talking about the fifth in the series in a down market, and the American dollar is so strong that we’re getting less returns from foreign," he mused. "This movie would’ve (taken) a billion dollars had it been back in the same financial (world as the last film), but we lost 27 per cent of our money just by the conversion rate. But god it’s at what, $790 million now? It’s amazing.
"Hopefully (Pirates 5 is) very successful on DVD as the other ones have been. Then hopefully we’ll sit down and see where we go."
Jerry also recently renewed hopes that Bad Boys 3 could be back on. The film has had a chequered on-again, off-again history, with star Martin Lawrence recently declaring he thought the project was dead in the water.
However, Jerry insists a new writer has been found, following the loss of director and writer director Joe Carnahan in March, so things are looking back on track.
"Well, we’ve been developing it for I don’t know how many years now and we had a period of time where it got pretty close and then it drifted away a little bit and hopefully it will drift back again. We have a new writer on it who’s working on it right now, so that gives me encouragement," he recently divulged.
