Jared Leto 'Confused' by Leonardo DiCaprio The Joker Reports
Sep 8, 2017 by: WENN
Jared Leto is confused by reports suggesting Leonardo DiCaprio is in line to take on the role of villain The Joker in a new origin movie.
The Dallas Buyers Club star portrayed The Joker in Suicide Squad and will reportedly reprise the bad guy role in Gavin O'Connor's sequel. Leto and his co-star Margot Robbie have also signed on to star in a Suicide Squad spin-off focusing on their characters.
However, it is now being reported that DiCaprio is a frontrunner to play Batman's nemesis in a new Warner Bros. and DC Comics film to be directed by The Hangover's Todd Phillips.
Sources claim moviemaker Martin Scorsese, who is on board as a producer, is hoping to persuade his Wolf of Wall Street leading man to play the man behind The Joker.
The movie is not expected to feature Leto and he admits he is "confused" about the studio's plans.
"I'm a little confused..., but yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world," he tells On Demand Entertainment.
"I loved the Joker, he's a great character, a really fun character to play," he continues. "It's a big universe and when you play The Joker, there's no ownership there. You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. But there are other films in development and I'm excited to see what comes from them."
