George Newbern Teases Possible New Sequel to Father of the Bride
Oct 13, 2017 by: WENN
Writer/director Charles Shyer has completed the screenplay for a new sequel to hit film franchise Father of the Bride, according to actor George Newbern.
Steve Martin led the cast in the original comedy back in 1991, when he portrayed an overprotective father reluctant to let his daughter, played by Kimberly Williams, take the next step in her life and get married.
Newbern portrayed the young groom in the hit movie, which also co-starred Diane Keaton as Martin's onscreen wife, and they all reprized their roles for a follow up, Father of the Bride Part II, in 1995.
Now Scandal star Newbern reveals Shyer, who brought the first two installments to life in the 1990s, has penned a third movie to reunite the old gang.
"Charles Shyer wrote a script," he told Us Weekly. "I know there's a script out there. And there's talk. I don't know how far it got but I'm sure most of the cast would be into it if the script was right. So maybe that's just a question of that happening."
Rumors about a potential new sequel have been rumbling for several years, but Martin ruled himself out of returning to the franchise in 2014.
