Tina Fey and Jay Roach Developing Ohio University Shooting Movie
Oct 16, 2017 by: WENN
Actress Tina Fey has reunited with former co-star Jay Roach to develop a movie about the Kent State University shootings in Ohio in 1970.
The former 30 Rock star will produce 67 Shots with Roach, who will also serve as director.
The project will be written by Stephen Belber and will be based on Howard Means' book 67 Shots: Kent State and the End of American Innocence.
The film was first put into development by Fey's husband Jeff Richmond, who attended the college, where four students were killed after 29 guardsmen from the Ohio National Guard fired 67 shots into a crowd of Vietnam War protesters.
"It is a cautionary tale," Roach said. "Kent State was a big event for me, and I remember arguing with my dad about it when I was about 13. There was a prevailing movement in the country, they measured it with polls, where the vast majority of Americans blamed the students for what happened... We have footage of people on the streets, saying, 'I wish they'd shot them all, I wish they had machine guns'."
Fey and Roach previously worked together on 2015 film Sisters.
