Paddington 2 Director Wants Weinstein Name Scrubbed From Film's Credits
Oct 24, 2017 by: WENN
The director of the Paddington sequel is hoping The Weinstein Company's name is wiped from his film's credits following the Harvey Weinstein sex scandal.
David Heyman, who also directed Harry Potter films and Gravity, was left reeling following a recent New York Times expose, which detailed Weinstein's sexual harassment and alleged abuse, and now his former company, TWC, is in the spotlight amid the fallout of the drama, the moviemaker wants nothing to do with the producers.
The Weinstein Co. executives have North American distribution rights for his new film, and that sickens Heyman.
"What Harvey Weinstein did is obviously abhorrent," the director tells Deadline. "Hopefully the revelations and the conversation we are all engaged with now will lead to a tide of change in the entertainment industry and beyond.
"(I hope) The Weinstein Company name is nowhere near Paddington 2... (The Weinsteins) had absolutely nothing to do with the financing or making of this film."
He adds, "It’s very sad and deeply frustrating that Paddington, who’s been around for more than 50 years, and is always looking for the good in people, and has such a generous, warm-hearted spirit, could have any association."
