Quentin Tarantino's Manson Murders Film Lands Grisly Release Date
Dec 4, 2017 by: WENN
Quentin Tarantino's Manson Family film will open on August 9, 2019, exactly 50 years after actress Sharon Tate and her three friends were murdered by cult members.
The then-wife of director Roman Polanski was heavily pregnant with the couple's first child when she was brutally killed by followers of Charles Manson at her Los Angeles home alongside friends Jay Sebring, a famous hairstylist, screenwriter Wojciech Frykowski and his girlfriend, coffee empire heiress Abigail Folger.
Manson 'family' members also murdered a married couple, supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary the day after the Tate murders in August, 1969.
Tarantino's ninth film--his first with a major studio--will be released by bosses at Sony Pictures, who beat out Warner Bros. and Paramount executives to secure the rights earlier this month.
The writer/director has released few details about the film, which reportedly takes place in L.A. in the summer of 1969 and centers upon a TV actor looking to trade his small screen success for a film career and his stunt double looking for his own big break.
Tarantino is reportedly hoping to cast Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, while Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt are reportedly in talks for other roles.
DiCaprio and Pitt previously starred in Tarantino's Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, respectively.
Charles Manson, who had been behind bars since 1971, died last month, aged 83
