Elf Tops Poll to Find the Best Holiday Film of the 21st Century
Dec 26, 2017 by: WENN
Elf has topped a new survey of the best holiday films of the 21st century so far.
WENN/Cover Media teamed up with the movie experts at Fandango to compile a list of the Top 10 seasonal favorites released between January 1, 2000 and now, and over the past few weeks, over 1,000 moviegoers have been polled.
Will Ferrell's madcap 2003 festive film leads the way, and Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis is far from surprised: "Elf is one of those quintessential holiday movies that works wonders because it's wildly entertaining, instantly memorable, and something the whole family can enjoy together.
"It's the most beloved holiday movie in my household because it's a film that makes you feel warm, happy and silly, and everyone needs some of that come the holidays. That, plus Will Ferrell's elf antics will never get old!"
Elf is closely followed by The Polar Express and Love Actually, which some movie aficionados insist isn't a true Christmas film. We tend to disagree--and so did those surveyed, who voted it number three.
Jim Carrey's Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas and racy comedy Bad Santa--the first of three R-rated movies in the Top 10--round out the Top 5.
The full list is:
1. Elf (2003)
2. The Polar Express (2004)
3. Love Actually (2003)
4. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
5. Bad Santa (2003)
6. The Holiday (2006)
7. The Best Man Holiday (2013)
8. Krampus (2015)
9. Arthur Christmas (2011)
10. The Night Before (2015)
