Feb 7, 2018 by: WENN
British comedy star Stephen Merchant is getting serious for the new The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel.
The Logan actor and Norway's Synnove Macody Lund are the latest castmembers to be added to the line-up for The Girl in the Spider's Web, which will feature The Crown star Claire Foy as computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.
Further details about Merchant and Lund's roles have not been revealed, but the news emerges a month after Get Out star Lakeith Stanfield boarded the crime thriller as a National Security Agency (NSA) security expert tasked with tracking down Salander.
Also involved in the revamped franchise are actors Sverrir Gudnason and Sylvia Hoeks, while The Square's Claes Bang will portray the villain.
The movie, directed by Fede Alvarez, is currently in production in Europe, ahead of a planned winter release.
The Girl in the Spider's Web novel, which was released in 2015, is the fourth installment in the Millennium book series and the first written by David Lagercrantz, who took over as author following the death of series creator Stieg Larsson.
Larsson's original novel trilogy was adapted into a series of Swedish-language films starring Noomi Rapace as Salander in 2009. The first, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was given an American remake in 2011, starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig.
