Joe Manganiello Shares First Official Image of Deathstroke

Joe Manganiello has shared the first official image of himself as DC Comics villain Deathstroke.

The 40-year-old posted the captionless photo on Twitter on Saturday, showing him in the black and yellow suit, holding his helmet and wearing an eye patch.

Manganiello made his first appearance as the assassin and mercenary during the end credits of Justice League, where he united with Lex Luther, played by Jesse Eisenberg, who had escaped from prison.

The iconic villain, also known as Slade Wilson, will appear in the upcoming standalone The Batman film alongside Ben Affleck, who is reprising his role as crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne.

It has also been reported that a solo Deathstroke movie, with The Raid's Gareth Evans writing and directing, is in the pipeline.

The True Blood star, who is married to Modern Family star Sofia Vergara, is fully committed to transforming his already athletic body for his role as Deathstroke.

"My trainer and I have started putting together some workouts that are specific to the character and how I want the character to move," he explained earlier this year.

"It's an incredibly athletic role so all of the training is very functional. I've also started Kung fu and chi gung training, and I've also started working with katanas."

Manganiello has expressed his excitement at getting to play a comic book villain, and told Entertainment Tonight he had turned down many offers of roles in superhero films
because they weren't suitable.

"Growing up an avid comic book fan, and then there were a lot of superhero roles, and supervillain roles, that came my way that I said no to, or wasn't allowed to do, because of other commitments," he said. "It's just really exciting to think that this (Deathstroke) is the one."

A release date for The Batman has yet to be confirmed, but filming is expected to start in early 2018.
