F. Gary Gray in Talks to Direct Men in Black Revamp

The Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray is in talks to take charge of a Men in Black relaunch.

The filmmaker has emerged as a favorite among Sony and Amblin studio bosses to tackle the franchise, which launched with Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith as unlikely alien-fighting sidekicks.

If things go the executives' way, the Straight Outta Compton director will work from a script written by Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

Steven Spielberg will executive produce the project, which is set to hit theaters in June, 2019.

Jones and Smith last appeared in a Men in Black film back in 2012. Neither are expected to make an appearance in the new movie, according to Deadline sources.

The original 1997 Men in Black release, which focused on a police officer who joins a secret organization that monitors extraterrestrials on Earth, was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, who returned to take charge of the 2002 and 2012 sequels.
