Better than I expected it to be, and some of the performances are quite good.

As missed opportunities go, sadly this one hit me as being fairly massive.

Vromen and Penn would have been better off writing a straightforward father-son heist flick without trying (and failing) to pull off this high-concept maneuver.

Vromen may have meant to create a politically-tinged period piece about one of the most combustible moments in American history, but the only element of Nineties Americana he really resurrects is the mediocre amoral crime flick.

The look is drab, the action is barely coherent, and Liotta deserved to go out with a better line than “I did the best that I could, son. I’m sorry it wasn’t enough.”

There are shootouts, a car chase, some heroics and some hard life lessons—but this film isn’t breaking new ground on either the action or socio-political front.

"1992" is a good film, but it teases the edge of greatness and it’s a shame that there wasn’t enough time to push it over the edge.

While not revolutionary, 1992 offers a valuable commentary on the recent history of the United States and in the power of cinema to explore complex issues. [Full review in Spanish]

1992 has similar elements of other heists films, but Tyrese Gibson career best performance elevates the film to another level.

If you're going to take a historical event and make that the backdrop of the film, you better paint something worthy of the canvas... [But it's] just a run-of-the-mill heist movie.
