This is not exactly a full on movie - more like an extended episode of Twilight Zone - which I think it does really well. The dings are - it isn't a full movie, the world building setup makes no sense (other reviewers have gone into this in more detail), and it is pretty low budget. That all said, it is a cute short story with likeable characters and some pretty decent pokes at how technology isolates us. The movie even goes so far as make the isolation LITERAL with the pods.

The film itself was not bad. It was well shot, the acting was good all round. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. When it got to the end of the film I was shocked it had ended. It felt like I had finished the first episode of a show and something was finally about to start happening. I think the concept would'vs done better as a show due to the realistic and slow pace of Darwin's recovery. The overall energy of the show was tepid, one child took minor issue with Darwins presence, one teenager cried about being abandoned. Other than that the whole pace was slow and pleasant. Possibly realistic but certainly tepid. Really this film was about human connection and what we lose when we replace it with technology. Misrepresented as a dystopian adventure full of mystery.

Gentle, charming, and whimsical. Absolutely not an action film. No evil people. No one gets killed. Some gentle romance. A challenging message, as we are glued to our screens. My favourite B movie of this century.

I love the idea of this movie, but the details made no sense. I had guessed early on that there was no longer any human thinking behind the machines and that they were being run by mindless AI programs, but how were the people in the pods being taken care of? Where did the food come from? Where did the vape supplies come from? Who cleaned up and provided water to the pods? Whose crazy idea was it to have one person per pod? Why were the police drones so unable to spot people hiding? No heat seeking capability? How did the kid live in the pod for 9 years and not see anything but that dog? There were birds around, why hadn't he seen those before? Why did he so quickly abandon his mom? Why didn't he go to her pod as soon as he stepped out of his? Why was everyone so afraid of the police drones? When one caught Darwin, nothing happened. It acted like him being outside of his pod and visiting his mother was perfectly normal. Shouldn't the deluded pod people have all been rescued as soon as he found out there was no longer any government? Darwin just went back to his found family and enjoyed himself and the free people made no attempt to rescue the ones in the pods. There was not nearly enough backstory for it to make any sense. I know it's allegorical and metaphorical, but it still needs to make internal sense.

The movie itself wasn't really good, but it should bring up discussions about the use and misuse of technology

Slow and boring as other reviews say. On to the next selection of endless media entertainment... Hope there aren't any power outages

Really horrible knock-off of E.M. Forster's novella, 'When the Machine Stops' written in 1909. The novella can be read in about the same time it takes to watch this film and is a much more rewarding experience. Way to bastardize a prophetic classic.

This dumb kids movie reminded me of college projects. Bad scripts, bad story, bad effects, bad acting. They took what should have been a ten minute short and wasted everyone's time dragging it out longer.

Excellent acting, amazing plotline, and not nearly as slow-paced as the movie 2001.

The budget of this film must've been so low that the voice of the narrator is definitely a Microsoft text to speech tool.
