A Chance Encounter

As too often happens in movies that depict literary aspirants, the writing raises the dreaded question, “Wait, is this actually supposed to be good?”

To his credit (Jeffrey) avoids the temptation to go the conventional route. And there’s something refreshing about a relationship that remains mostly platonic, which allows the characters to grow naturally rather than by some by-the-book genre blueprint.

Enchanting premise but the interaction between the two leads lack sparks and warmth. In the end, the Sicilian town of Taormina remains the best thing about this movie.

Better to just listen to von Kampen's soundtrack instead.

“A Chance Encounter” is the very definition of a small film, in all of the best ways.
