A Girl Like Grace
audience Reviews
, 66% Audience Score- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsThis is a Harvey Weinstein special. There is limited or no redemption and plenty of exploitation in the image of character in this movie. If you want to get through it, take a break and a deep breath before diving back in. The writer exploited everything pure about the main character and showing a little humanity, logic or empathy in all but one of the others. Fortitude in humanity would have been refreshing, but those sparks were missing. If you want to feel miserable for a spell, watch this film.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsThis has got to be the worst movie ever filmed. The trailer made it seem like it would at least be decent, but man. The plot was all over the place and the acting was terrible. This movie served no purpose.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsA film worth seeing but there were some problems in the script. Grace appears to reject the man crazy lifestyle of her deadbeat, food stamp craving mother in favor of getting ahead in school and not caring to run with the popular crowd at school. Grace dresses conservatively and appears to be an introvert. Then about an hour in there's this abrupt shift to her character where she's wearing her mother's sleazy dresses, high heels, and applying gobs of makeup. What gives? There's little or no transition point between the two Graces portrayed. And what about her love interest? He just seems to fade into the woodwork as Grace explores her sexuality, with the promiscuous Cher as her role model. Then Grace out-duels Cher in the promiscuity department by crashing a low life gathering and doing a pole dance to seduce a tattooed white dude. The writer should have taken this script into a Writer's Workshop and had it critiqued before investing the film money. And what of the dialogue? At times it feels like white peeps are talking, white words out of black mouths. If the arc of character was fixed I would find this flick more believable. But it goes KLUNK at important times during the coming of age of Grace, making it an average film at best. I will say however that the thing that lifts it above average are the acting skills of the woman who plays Lisa, Grace's mother. She's believable in most scenes, even when she starts sounding like a white woman.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsThis movie was straight trash. It had a good message that was ruined by sex and bad acting. The movie said it was pg 13 but they dropped at least 30 f bombs. I'm pretty sure someone falsely rated this movie. I wish I could've liked it but I had to skip through so many parts just to watch it. This movie should be rated R. Do not let your children watch this.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI feel the movie should be seen by teenagers. Maybe it will help children to fight and choose life. Grace had a lot to overcome. Like many children, Grace is seeking love and acceptance by humans. It was difficult for her to accept the loss of her best friend. Her mother was dealing with her own life issues. Grace had no adult guidance therefore Grace felt really lonely and lost. So many choices for Grace. The same choices children are presented today on a daily basis. The movie begins conversation for children. Ages 9-17yrs old.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsShows some filmmaking talent. the first two acts are very good. The third act was lacking but overall it was a very good effort.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWonderful movie Beautiful movie
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA smart black teenage girl's dark-but-hopeful life. Absent mother, dead best friend, but things are turning around for her, even if she doesn't see it yet. She makes some good choices, some terrible ones, often back to back. She suffers but she bounces back. She finds herself in her limits.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsthis movie was kinda like the movie thirteen.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis needs to get publicity! It was gripping, related-able, believably, and i felt endless emotions watching it. I saw it at the Milwaukee Film Festival and got to meet most of the cast there, including the amazing Raven Simone, but that beside the point. This movie followed the character, Grace who is a lower class teenager who recently lost her best friend from suicide and it shows her painful experiences following. It is extremely moving if you have had someone who has killed themselves and brought back a lot of emotions for me, but a showed it perfectly. It also tackles hard subjects like rape, violence, drug abuse, sexual identity and parenting. The most amazing part of the movie is it felt like you were not watching actors, they felt so real and I loved everything about this movie.
