A Sudden Case of Christmas
audience Reviews
, 40% Audience Score- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsA Sudden Case of Christmas, starring Danny DeVito and Andy MacDowell, is a charming holiday film about a family reconnecting under one roof. The dad (DeVito) owns a hotel and wants everyone together for Christmas, not realizing his daughter and her husband are on the verge of separation. They want him to break the news to his granddaughter because of their close bond. The story is cute and fun — a creative twist on a classic holiday setup — and it highlights the power of family and reconciliation. It shows how love can bring people back together and help them realize what matters most. This isn’t a film I’d rush to watch over and over, but if it popped up on my feed again, I’d gladly watch it a second time. The direction is strong, the writing is creative enough to keep you engaged, and Danny DeVito is, as always, a highlight. His performance adds a spark to the film, and Andy MacDowell is effortlessly charming and beautiful in her role. Overall, A Sudden Case of Christmas is a sweet holiday watch — not a masterpiece, but a warm, enjoyable film that brings a bit of festive magic.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsMight as well be a Hallmark movie. Would not watch again.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsDon’t listen to the other reviews. This was a fun movie. Not every movie has to have unrealistic stories. Marital issues are real and the message was clear. Put everything aside and celebrate Christmas with your family! Danny Devito, the adorable little girl and a very cute puppy! You cannot go wrong!
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsThe best part about this movie was Dany. I enjoyed his time on camera, particularly with the grand daughter character. The start made the movie promising and seemed to be setup well, but execution was terrible. All the subplots were an unintesting, confusing mess. I REALLY wanted to like this movie but It seems to have been re-written several times during shooting. otherwise I have no idea how this was greenlit.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsI don’t even know where to start… This was the most horrible movie I have ever seen, and the saddest part is that I actually paid for the tickets. The editing is awful, and the plot is downright hideous. The movie makes no sense at all. There are countless scenes that do absolutely nothing to move the story forward—they’re just there. They introduce a lot of characters who barely show up and serve no real purpose in the story. The title suggested it was supposed to be centered around Christmas, but honestly, it has nothing to do with the holiday—or anything else for that matter. The film lacks a coherent plot entirely. If I were Danny DeVito, I’d sue them for dragging my name into such a disastrous project. The only reason I’m giving it half a star is because that’s the lowest rating possible and maybe for the few nice shots of nature. Please, save yourself the disappointment and just watch a Hallmark movie at home—they have way more quality than this piece of… well, you get the idea.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is not your typical American movie. It has a twist and it has a very good message about family. Not a bunch of people running behind what present to get next.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsA movie about a self entitled girl who demands Christmas in the summer. Forces her grandparents to fly to Italy to attend the fake Christmas. All so she can feel better about her parents divorce and she knew about before arriving in Italy. Then she asks her grandfather to pay for a bunch of stuff while he is close to bankruptcy. And all the parents and grandparents are cheating on each other like it is normal. Perfect example of a Gen Z kid.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsIt loses steam as it goes on, though 'A Sudden Case of Christmas' is fairly good. The cast are the big draw. Danny DeVito is obviously the main man, I always enjoy watching him. The likes of Andie MacDowell and Lucy DeVito are alright alongside the aforementioned, though it's Antonella Rose that is the star overall - a strong performance from the youngster. Adrian Dunbar has a small but memorable role, even if he is too good an actor for such a bit part. It's not the most Christmassy of movies, despite the title. That's to be expected given how the story unfolds in fairness, but definitely something to be aware of if you're planning to watch this for the first time as part of your core festive viewing. It was released at Xmas time, but honestly a summer release would've been more fitting; à la the plot. What's there, though, is perfectly watchable and the Italian surroundings look grand, at least. It only lasts for around 90 minutes, I admittedly did feel it drag a bit towards the end. More meat on the bones would've helped, the finale could've been something more interesting than what we get with the four-legged fella. All in all, I consider this narrowly passable. 7/10.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsNot your basic Christmas movie! I'm actually tired of watching the same hallmark plot over and over! I love Claire, her grandpa, the hotel guy and the puppy of course! Claire and Danny Devito scenes are definitely my favorite moments!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsHot chocolate, cozy pajamas, Danny Devito acting alongside a very cute little girl, made my perfect movie night!
