Age of Summer

"The Age of Summer" ultimately squeaks by on sun-kissed charisma.

There's plenty of sun and fun, but it's Kiely's presentation of a teen finding his bliss that makes Age of Summer a disarmingly pleasant diversion.

Far too bland to be at all memorable, but it's a harmless growing-up-on-the-beach tale that families can watch together, though it would be more at home on a kids' cable channel than in a theatre.

Age of Summer isn't polished enough to recommend, but there's an undeniable spirit of passion and love that you can feel the filmmakers had for this beach community.

The movie never reaches anything profound, but it really tries to make us believe that it has.
