- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsAlice, sweet Alice, is yet another film from the 1980s that was intended to be a shocking spectacle. The story centers around a church lady who turns out to be a serial killer, even committing murder right in front of the congregation, including the priest. The film embraces its purpose, managing to capture the audience's attention for a brief moment. However, it doesn't hold up well over time; its narrative feels disjointed, leaving viewers confused about the plot and the characters' motivations as they shift around. Ultimately, I found it lacking in enjoyment. While some critics and viewers may have appreciated it, I personally didn't see it as a noteworthy horror film. To me, it was merely passable—often dull and hindered by subpar acting.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsIt’s somewhat enjoyable but overly campy and irritating.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsSuspenseful and shocking, this campy horror movie offers an intriguing mystery that’s only outdone by a crazy plot twist. It’s also weirdly acted and slightly annoying.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt was looking quite promising in the first half, with great acting, nice pacing and compelling drama. I really enjoyed it. The characters acted a little oddly at times but I was expecting that to be explained later. However in the second half the writer gave it a plot twist that felt improbable and cheap. It would have been better to stick with the main antagonist.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsA gothic slasher that has a lot to say even with its campy tone and simple enough plot. The way almost everyone behaves in this movie is so annoying and unlikeable but you can't deny a lot of people are really like this which makes the themes strong even when the movie tries some ridiculous stuff that's kind of hilarious at times. However, the way it approaches sexuality, like a lot of older films that do that with young characters just feels like plain creepy writing and direction. I was glad that it wasn't the bigger focus and moved on to the other stuff. I wish I had seen this film in better quality because it felt like there was some visual stuff that would've been a lot more striking if I had.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA surprisingly thoughtful slasher. Even as it indulges in genre conventions the movie examines how high minded notions about the goodness of other people and the power of faith are ultimately fruitless when confronted by true evil.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt is a very interesting horror movie that hides who the killer is well, reveals a powerful maniac towards the end, and perfects the story with the presence of Paula E. Sheppard. I couldn't get enough of watching the character Alice. The film's unpredictable nervous breakdowns keep the pace constantly high while watching characters disturbed by each other.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsVery odd and different "horror" movie. Not very memorable
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsDeeply morbid and nontransparent. Narcissistically weird and freaky. It oddly was impressionable. I hadn't reached my double digits when I saw this film. I wouldn't want a child under 17 to view this movie.
