American Fiction
audience Reviews
, 95% Audience Score- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsAbsolutely hilarious, relatable to all, and important in its messaging, American Fiction should be seen by all those old enough to consume the frequently used foul language.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAmerican Fiction is a great comedy blended with drama. Absolutely love it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsManages to sharply skewer the half-hearted lip service paid to racial justice by many while developing deep interesting characters, and somehow also telling the tale of a funny and heart warming family all at the same time. The writing, acting, and atmosphere of every scene perfectly fits the movie's message. Watched it on a whim having heard nothing about it before and it's now a go-to recommendation.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsSharply delivered humorous satire with thought-provoking complexity soulfully excelled by Jeffrey Wright’s memorably definitive performance under familiar observation. (B+)
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsSo overrated it’s unbelievable. It’s more a boring family drama than a comedy, bar far! Super boring and the most interesting thing was when he’s pulling one over on book distributors which last a whole 15 minutes. It’s a decent family drama, that’s not funny at all
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsAmerican Fiction is a smart well crafted story that diverts too much energy away from the central plot at times. Leaving far too many valuable chips on the table to play it slightly more safe. The cast and performances are great and go on to save the story. The satirical and farcical moments can also be memorable. One particular moment that stands out is when Monk visualizes his creations. But as the film develops his character throughout it gets bogged down in family drama. So much so that the when you want to see the satirical moments your actually watching family drama.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsI did like a lot of this. I just really, really didn’t like the ending.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsseriously some of the best writing i've ever seen on screen
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsI wanted to like this movie. It had some funny moments. With some more work (rewrites and directing) it could have been good. The acting was mostly good. However, the movie fell flat. All characters were shallow stereotypes and pandering. The drama did not fit the movie and did not feel real.
