***SPOILERS*** American Hustle is one of those movies which are just an absolute joy to watch. The characters are well-written and pretty layered. Rosalyn Rosenfeld is probably hated by everyone, but what she does was sometimes really funny to me, that made her a little bit more complex in my eyes. The most complex character is probably Mayor Carmine Polito. It always changed whether I wanted him to get away or not. I think he was trying to do the right thing for the city, but the way he was doing it would eventually have destroyed it. I don't know the real life history behind the film's story, so I love how none of the characters are pure evil or good. My favourite character was Irving Rosenfeld, that's probably because he is the point-of-view character and I love Christian Bale. The story is also well-crafted, while the dialogues are mostly natural. The directing and the cinematography are great, while the editing is outstanding. I loved how they messed with the two timelines, it helped the story to be more engaging. The best part of the film is the cast. I couldn't stop listing them. I think Christian Bale is slowly becoming one of my top 3 actors, while I also love everybody else in the main cast. The Robert De Niro and Shea Whigham cameos were unexpected and they elevated their scenes. The acting performances are spectacular. American Hustle is my type of film and I think it's near perfect.

Pretty good rendition of a true story, dramatised. Were it not true-ish, you couldn’t believe it. Cooper gets the very best scenes, but all are good.

The film's promise is backed up by a brilliant cast, and we're kept on our toes by the performances of the cast, with Christian Bale always on top form, and a film full of twists and turns. I often tend to get bored with American films, but I really enjoyed watching this one. I recommend it 🚀
