Anora
audience Reviews
, 90% Audience Score- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsI just wrote a very detailed negative review of Anora and the Rotten Tomatoes ap killed it. It would not let me post. I won’t rewrite it. I think this site is rigged. I guess that explains the high ratings this extremely poor movie has received.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsCan’t stop thinking about this movie. It had so many layers that I appreciated the movie even more after leaving the theater.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsWhat starts off as a fun romance film tackling some adult themes, turns into one bad day of tragedy and heartbreak that was hard to watch without feeling EXACTLY what the characters felt. I think the shocking change of pace and feeling in this film halfway through somehow propels the slower back half into actually the more engaging part of the film. You can sense Sean Baker's artistic vision had no outside influence, just pure skill of how to tell a story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA little too long during the first 25% of the film & a bit too much sexual intercourse, (especially since it would have caused the film to be rated NC-17 not long ago! ) Otherwise a very good film.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsWild and audacious, wonderfully evocative of a certain part of New York. Great performances!
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsMasterful, what a good narration; a young woman trapped in a reality that she wants to believe will be different, and on the other hand a spoiled child playing and challenging his limits, no matter who takes ahead. Excellent performances, script, music.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWhat a complete yet proximal world !
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsIt relied on sex scenes and repeated use of foul language too much, where it could have developed the relationship between the two main characters and had more thoughtful dialogue. It felt like a Hallmark movie, where Amira fell in love after knowing the guy for a week. Whether she was more in love with the prospect of being rescued from her miserable life vs being in love with the man child is the true dichotomy. I read many reviews that called this movie a tragedy. I don’t see it that way at all. Sometimes the path to our true destiny is a broken road.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMikey Madison sparkling, dramatic performance makes this movie a "must see" for 2024's Best Actress performance. Movie was well-written, well-cast by Sean Baker, and was captivating in plot. The mix of Armenian and Russian language and its dramatic use provides an insight both into the Brooklyn sex show life, and the prevalence of Russian oligarchy life in America. Well-done!
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsAnora is modern gritty pretty woman story about a young woman doing what she knows to survive. Street smart, headstrong, emotionally scarred but never defined by those wounds. Anora, better known as Ani is fighter through life's darkest and brighter moments, which is exactly where this film takes you in this most expect dark humor and dark romance driven drama.
