giddy, childish, and unrealistic. the perfect recipe for a silly summer romcom for teens and tweens.

One top reviewer says something along the lines of “this movie is for eight-year-olds.” Oh well, there isn’t anything spectacular about the movie — but it’s entertaining and it’s good, clean, old-fashioned, childlike fun. The kind we’ve gotten un-used to these days, sadly. If you’ve lost touch with your inner child — don’t bother with this one!

One of my favorite childhood movies that I absolutely love. It's cheesy and has corny moments but it's for kids not really meant to entertain the adult eye.

I can see why it's has low ratings, it's certainly isn't up for any Oscars but to me it's iconic. I watched this when I was young but as an adult still have love for it. It's definitely a comfort movie of mine. It's a movie about magic and sisterhood and the way all young girls obsess about their crush and how to win him over. It's a memory of youth. It's fun, quirky, awkward, and cute. For me this is up there with mean girls and freaky friday, an unserious look at girlhood and the complexities of being a teenager.

A nice uplifting movie - probably more for adolescent girls but I enjoyed it too.

This movie was one of my favorites growing up, I was 10 going on 11 years old when it was released. I often see this movie being bashed by reviewers, although the people who hate on it are way over the target age group. Of course it wasn't made to please 30 year olds, so it seems very silly and cringe to anyone born before 1995. But my memories of watching this movie with my sister are so nostalgic; in 2006, every young girl wanted to be a mermaid, or be best friends with one. This movie has a unique personality, and when you're going through that very awkward phase of life where one transitions out of childhood into tween years, feeling like a "fish out of water" is the best way to describe it. This movie makes a literal metaphor out of that uncanny childish feeling, while being fun and heartfelt at the same time. 10/10
