Zack Snyder's ridiculously entertaining latest is a zombie heist movie with gore at its core.

If nothing else, Zack Snyder knows how to craft a stimulating visual tableau and he knows how to put on an extravagant show.

Not great. Not terrible, but it really could have just been 90 minutes and done the same thing.

Zack Snyder lives for excessive storytelling by stuffing as many insignificant details into his stories as possible.

Death comes for us all, and if we're fortunate, it's a very slow walker. Enjoying "Army of the Dead" doesn't require much more than appreciating that. Our collective starvation for thrills and wonder probably sauces its appeal even more.

Working with the Netflix charge card, Snyder has a ball proving that trash can triumph on the largest stage if played with elan and enthusiasm.

From the vision of filmmaker Zack Snyder (300, Zack Snyder’s Justice League) comes ARMY OF THE DEAD: a venturous and captivating new spin on the zombie genre with a splash of Oceans Eleven. Gore, comedy, guts, mayhem …& a Zombie Tiger ?!


The result is a juvenile, two-and-a-half-hour, overwrought mess that wastes a talented cast in an ugly, CGI-drenched video game pastiche you want to end within a half-hour.

Aside from the incredible zombie tiger that is highlighted in the trailer, it was disappointing how lacking the creativity was within the design of the film.

Army of the Dead is an algorithmic cleansing exhale in the wake of a whirlwind period in Snyder’s career. As a zombie movie, it’s a shallow, scattershot effort with interesting mythology ideas that don’t really go anywhere.
