Asteroid City

An insightful allegory about the state of American life that is undercut by its unfocused narrative and seeming desire to prioritize cheap gags over thematic impacts, Asteroid City may not achieve all of its honorable aims, but it's still a remarkably substantial detour for the ordinarily stagey Wes Anderson that makes fabulous use of its varied ensemble cast.

I liked the idea of a live played theater, but to put it in the words of Augie: I still don´t understand the play.

Wes Anderson continues his with his very niche directing style and it works here. However the story and plot feel a little flat and even some of the characters do as well. Nonetheless, it’s still an interesting concept and still a good watch.

Such an incredible cast and such a dumb movie. Dumb story and I just didn’t understand what the point was for all of it. I did enjoy the cast and the color palette used for the movie, that’s pretty much it lol

Quirky, strange and full of famous actors. I enjoyed it, but as to what the message of this movie is (if there is one), no clue.

Não sei se peguei completamente a visão, mas o filme não me entediou em nenhum momento. Gostei muito da estética. Consegui sentir a confusão e o luto de um jeito mais contido e realista, se é que posso dizer assim. É um filme confuso, mas que instiga. Pretendo ler e assistir mais coisas sobre ele pra entender melhor se o que eu captei condiz com a proposta. Primeira review (ainda não sei bem como fazer isso), mas senti que precisava registrar.

What a surprise! The critics rated it. This is the sort of surreal nonsense tha celebrities use to legitimise themselves as proper actors. This film is a pile of pretentious bullshit. It's shot beautifully but the plot is nonexistent and it is not entertaining. And that's what it should have done ultimately.

It's well acted and in Wes Anderson's classic directing style, in the sense its more like watching a play, but the story itself is really boring. Nothing of interest happens in it and it leaves you with a feeling of "why did I bother watching this and what was the point?". It's not good.

Easily the worst movie I've seen in the last decade. Completely disjointed, plot made zero sense. The 10 seconds of Scarlett Johansson topless were the only redeeming part of the entire film.

Full disclosure, I’ve been an Wes Anderson fan since his feature film, directorial debut, “Bottle Rocket”. And “Rushmore” has been my official favorite movie since the moment I discovered that treasure. His name does for me what the names of other creative people rarely do, which is to trigger me to anticipate something great. With the exception of the Coen brothers, I can’t think of anybody whose work product has been so reliably enjoyable. Which is why it troubles me to not be able to go a full five stars for “Asteroid City”. Rather than write a long review, I will sum my thoughts up by saying it is heavy on West Anderson style, certainly, yet fails to land a compelling, interesting story. Yes, fantastical things happen, and yet I was left waiting for something interesting to happen. All style and no substance doesn’t justify the time spent watching this one.
