It was a pretty good movie but was long and convoluted particularly near the end. I don't care for movies that lack a definitive resolution so I deleted one star. Watch if there's nothing else on but I warned you about the non-ending.

Its one of the most interesting and impressive erotic thrillers of the 90s as it successfully engages in many contradictions. The movie is both titillating and repulsive, totally ridiculous and yet also genuinely thrilling, Sharon Stone's femme fatale indulges in old fashioned tropes while also undermining them. That is still annoys and excites audiences for a lot of the same reasons as it did in 1992 is a testament to the film's staying power.

A seductive romantic thriller about Kathy and Mike's characters spiralling into a true live fatal attraction. Who will be the winner? Only time will tell.

It kept me interested, and guessing, right up until that final shot, which revealed that all of my efforts were pointless since the guilt or innocence of the characters was a flip of the coin, based on evidence that could be read both ways. The film is like a crossword puzzle.

    Still holds up. Masterfully done

Sleek and razor-sharp, BASIC INSTINCT owes its edge to Sharon Stone’s commanding performance, with Michael Douglas deftly embodying the unraveling victim of her mind games.

Yes! Yes! All the sexual tensions, the violence, and language at it's finest. Sharon Stone was HOT!!!

One of the best movies ever made.

This is such a sleazy and smarmy update to the Film Noir formula of femmes fatale and urban decay that I couldn’t help but love it. It’s got thrilling and somewhat cliched plot about a detective trying to solve a sex murder in San Francisco, it’s got lots of great establishing shots of the Transamerica Pyramid and Golden Gate Bridge to constantly remind us where we are (plus a car chase up or down one of those crazy vertical San Francisco streets), and it’s got Sharon Stone in her prime. The way the film just embraces all these B-Movie goodies in a bear hug makes it endearing. It’s a popcorn film, wildly entertaining, adult and childish in equal amounts, and just really fine moviemaking all around. I love how it borrows the tone, music, and atmosphere of Vertigo with those long lingering following shots while mysterious music plays on the soundtrack and the waves of Northern California crash against the rocks. This is a film to be savoured.
