Mikey’s Movie Review: Battle Beyond The Stars (1980) A right of passage for most (especially) boys growing up post Star Wars, BBTS is filled with some great lines and a host of memorable, quirky characters. George Peppard (The A-Team) and Robert Vaughn (Man From U.N.C.L.E) bring the cool, charm and class, while Sybil Danning heaves her mighty bosom! Some future behind-the-camera stars got their big break too - James Horner (Titanic) scored the film, John Sayles (The Secret Of Roan Inish) wrote the script and James Cameron (The Terminator) worked his magic on the cheap and cheerful FX. It was Corman’s most expensive feature costing $2 million, but earned $11 million at the Box Office… I was 9 years old when this came out and I fondly remember seeing this many times, in the cinema as well as on TV… after 45 years it still retains its creaky, campy, naïve charm🤩 Mikey’s Rating: 3/5* or 5/5* (depending on alcohol level😅👌)

Star Wars / Seven Samurai ripoff.

A fairly memorable, decent Corman effort.

Didn’t like it at all. Underdeveloped characters, unoriginal plot, tacky visual effects and no sense of joy at all

I’m 40 minutes in and I don’t know how anybody made it through this ridiculous Star Wars knock off.

One of the best B-movies of all time! Go in with low expectations and you won't be disappointed. If you liked Flash Gordon (1980), I think this has a similar over the top vibe.

Ridiculous Star Wars knock off that will please no one.

One of my movie guilty pleasures. Attempting to capture the Star Wars zeitgeist, Roger Corman does the Seven Samurai.. In space. It's cheesy, low budget, b-movie sci-fi at its best and is chock full of great characters, memorable scenes and campy acting (John Saxon especially has a whale of a time). There's a wonderful cast and whilst none of them will rate this as their best work, I absolutely adore this film. I've seen this lots of times over the years and always enjoy it, probably more than I really should. For some inexplicable reason this movie has stuck with me and has firmly become one of my favourite 80's sci-fi b-movies. There's even a great theme tune and score which is a real ear worm. Absolutely love this movie, as I previously said, probably a lot more than I really should as objectively it's cheesy, low budget and derivative....

Star Wars rip off, that make 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' looks like a Oscar sweep.
