Sometimes tough to watch, but depicts the reality of bullying with amazing acting by the two main characters.

This film is a tough watch but exceptionally well-crafted. The main character endures a series of misfortunes throughout the narrative; difficult to witness yet crucial for understanding her harsh daily reality. While the scenes aren't overly graphic or explicit, they remain shocking in their emotional weight. The film’s tone stays grounded and bleak but retains a subtle thread of hope. Though it avoids a conventional narrative structure, it weaves a compelling sequence of events that keeps the audience engaged in the characters' goals and fears. The pacing can feel uneven at times; the film lingers on the protagonist’s suffering yet rushes through some of the lighter, more hopeful moments. However, the use of flashbacks is highly effective, introducing new revelations that reshape our understanding of earlier events. The final act feels somewhat drawn out, becoming slightly redundant and losing touch with the central themes. Technically, the film excels, it's beautifully shot, with outstanding performances and masterful direction. The music is particularly moving, enhancing the emotional depth of each scene. While the film might be slightly longer than necessary, it successfully explores important themes such as bullying, absent parenting, a dehumanized education system, and a desensitized justice system. I appreciated how it draws parallels between a child's school experience and life on the streets, highlighting the struggles of both environments. Ultimately, if you can handle the pacing and the Chinese language, this film delivers a powerful emotional experience that’s well worth your time.

Close-up shots are super powerful and show the raw emotions and vulnerability of the characters... I watched it and got stuck with the lasting impact for days.

I mean, there's different approach on bullying but this one is just perfect on representation. 10/10 will definitely watch again for the 3rd time if i want a good cry.

This movie made want to make a rotten tomatoes account just to rate it. It has been a while since I watched cinema that engaging and storytelling that made me empathetic to it's characters. The contrast between the emotional state of the characters and their surrounding was too beautiful, brutal and painful sometimes and the ability to capture tiniest details was superb. The ending was a bit stretched but nevertheless it didn't take from my overall experience
