Beyond Borders: Esteros

A little disjointed, a little slow. At first, it’s good for the tension, but I wanted something more. Maybe that was the point? It might just be my American sensibility versus the Argentine sensibility in terms of movie making. I just would have liked a bit more overt drama

It could have easily veered off track; instead it is a nearly perfect view into the natural simplicities and dense intricacies of human nature.

Just a wonderful movie. All the actors make it believable. Was sad when it ended as I didn’t want it to end.

Such a beautiful film that deals with such real issues. Both the younger and older actors did amazing.

Heartfelt, poignant, culturally much different than American films obviously, yet at the core, the same issues. I could hear Guarani in some of the vocabulary.

: Jerónimo (played by Blas Finardi Niz as a boy and Esteban Masturini as an adult) is the most seamless transition from a child to an adult that I have ever seen in a film. Every personality nuance is captured to perfection. Regardless of what anybody might feel about the subject matter? These performances were brilliant. A whole lot more goes into a film than actors and acting, but all else could be cut out and one could simply become lost focusing on the development and portrayal of this one character.

Otra película argentina que se enfoca en el amor entre dos personas que a pesar de ser del mismo sexo, es tan única y tan romántica como cualquiera. En ella, dos amigos de la infancia, separados después de su despertar sexual entre ellos, vuelven a encontrarse y las tensiones sexuales surgen tan de repente como cuando se fueron. La verdad es que es una relación que no es muy común y los personajes pueden ser considerados con mucha suerte, pero el final de la historia es demasiado satisfactorio, auténtico y dulce.

Definitely on my top 10 list of all time. For me it was one of those magical films where you forget how long the movie really is because you were so engrossed in it. Both cerebral and yet effortless when watching it. About to watch it for my sixth time. (PS, this is for Americans, get over the "I hate reading subtitles" or something to that effect. You were missing out on SO MANY amazing films from other countries.)
