Blitz

Blitz is a powerful and somewhat disarming film about the longterm German bombing of London in 1940. Simply put, it is one of the year’s best.


...the Vermeer-like glow that illuminates [Ronan's] face as the camera tracks toward her across the factory floor. McQueen finds beauty in Rita’s resolve.

It is a gripping adventure... not without flaws.

The film never seems to find exactly what it wants to say. While many storylines introduce compelling characters or themes, they often end abruptly without a common thread.

It’s undeniably a technically wonderful film.

…Blitz looks great in the trailer, and there’s some wild, picturesque moments..yet there’s nothing complex or real in the picaresque journey depicted here, which just feel like embroidered, sentimental recollections of a blitz barely depicted here…

Magnificently staged from start to finish, and the anchoring performances of Ronan and young Heffernan are sublime.

An uneven script but Saoirse Ronan still shines.

What I see and hear on the screen doesn't particularly excite me. It doesn't disinterest me or bore me either. But I don't understand the unconditional enthusiasm for it. [Full review in Spanish]
