Blue Hawaii
audience Reviews
, 67% Audience Score- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsThis is just a forgettable Musical. This is probably the worst collection of Elvis songs for a musical. It's a mediocre mess. The hawaiian songs and Elvis numbers never mix well and come across more as a jumbled collection of songs that never pop on screen. Everything is just fundamentally ok. The setting of Hawaii should be easy to make pop and memorable but its very hit or miss. One of the main reasons is because this has a suprising high amount of projection shots and studio sets for half the film and only ever now and than does it take advantage of the best place on earth as a setting. Once Elvis becomes a tour guide it can feel like stuff just happens with the girls he guides around and the love interest who waited for him to come home. Some of the humor occasionally gets a laugh suprisingly also. There really isn't that much more to say about this. It's so forgettable that anyone who isn't a die hard Elvis fan should skip this.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsOne of the king of Rock and Roll's most iconic movies but it's one of his worst
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsElvis is wonderful! The story, the acting and the songs. Wonderful!!! A delight to watch ⚡️
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsFun film that Elvis fans will love, nothing new but the music is great.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsAs it may have aged, the plot and songs have. Not a classic, just an aged film with a star of talent!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe best movie song ever sung: the title song!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsNice Hollywood musical ...filmed in Hawaii in color which makes it nicer . Too many songs and a plot w no denouement ....but something about it survives the decades ! (Maybe elvis in smug proto speedos and crooning softly of love and sunsets every five minutes?). All sexism aside , it's mostly a girls movie ( well, it's good for dudes , too. A lotta twistin' babes!).
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsA timeless film, but I have to give it a look again to see if the critics are right about this or not.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsI was almost always true to you. Chad has recently been released from the military and returns home to Hawaii to find a girlfriend who expects him to settle down and live a normal lifestyle and parents who want him to prepare to take over the family business. Unfortunately, Chad wants to pick his own path and rebels against both directions. He may find those that love him have his best interest at heart and he may need to compromise. "How could you kiss that girl?" "It was easy." Norman Taurog, director of Boys Town, GI Blues, Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, Speedway, The Birds and the Bees, Men of Boys Town, and Mad about Music, delivers Blue Hawaii. The storyline for this picture is fairly cheesy, cliché, and contains mediocre writing and characters. The acting is average and the cast includes Elvis Presley, Joan Blackman, Angela Lansbury, Roland Winters, and Steve Brodie. "Daddy, are you forgetting yourself?" "I'm trying." I recently came across an Elvis marathon on cable and decided to DVR a few pics. This was very cheesy and did not take itself too seriously. The plot just seemed like an excuse to rollout Elvis and his music. He had charisma, but needed a well written film. I'd skip this unless you are a diehard Elvis fan. "That dog is just plain stupid." Grade: C
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsFirst off, this movie has it all- Elvis in an army uniform, Elvis with a lei, Elvis kissing every woman, Elvis swinging his hips, Elvis singing Elvis songs, Elvis singing Hawaiian songs, Elvis in a white suit, Elvis with an orange fake tan, Elvis shirtless, Elvis making non stop innuendo, Elvis surfing, Elvis with a dog, Elvis being a good guy, Elvis brawling, Elvis in jail, Elvis on a horse... Unfortunately, what it doesn't have is a plot or any emotion. The music also tapers off into blandness by the end. Way to kill good-actor Elvis, world.
