Blue My Mind

The tension dissipates. And the final pay-off, which is effectively Wedler trussed up in the world's worst mermaid costume, is a borderline insult.

It is flawed, but has a good performance by Wedler.

Rather like its misleadingly punny title, "Blue My Mind" wants to work on multiple levels, but falters to become a slightly unconvincing, if well-made, single-entendre.

As push-pull friendships in churning waters go, Mia's and Gianna's is the visceral heart of Brühlmann's film, which otherwise isn't the greatest mix of teen angst and body horror you're likely to see, but also nowhere near the worst.

A tedious burn about a young woman's gradual change, like an A24-branded coming-of-age title with a metamorphosis that's heavy on its metaphor.

From top to tails, it's a haunting and poignant film, alive with beauty, pain, and heart.

It was a relatable coming of age story with a twist. It was heartbreaking and hopeful and I can’t praise it enough.

Blue My Mind is equal parts beautiful and wonderfully repulsive.
