911 what's your emergency? Yeah I'm trying to break in... You're trying to do what? Break in! This movie feels quite claustrophobic, it's taking place in one small area, so it doesn't feel like a big blockbuster movie, but then again there is other movies that is similar like Panic Room and yet we don't complain about it, but one thing about this movie, is that there are two unexpected characters that suddenly pops in so it doesn't make having just the same three people trying to survive feel stale. In the beginning I thought not much was going to happen but then it gets right to it, but the pace stays slow, it focused alot on Gabrielle Union's acting and she gives a really solid performance. The second half of the movie doesn't feel like the first half, although there are some moments that left me in surprise but one thing I wish was done differently was the one villain, they should have made him help the family instead because it looked as if it was going that way then they just threw that out of the window like butter on a stick, it would have been a great surprise that we all hoping would happen. Although the part with the husband coming home was unexpected it felt quite rushed, it would have been nice if they gave him a bigger fighting role. For the type of movie this is and just by looking at it, you can already see it's budget, I think the ending matched quite well. This movie is great watch, it isn't a over the top big blockbuster, so it isn't bad. The performances is good, Gabrielle Union gave such a great performance though. The Villains might have been bland but they are more of robbers and not serial killers so I wasn't so disappointed. The cinematography is good, nothing spectacular, the shots are all crisp and clear but nothing really cinematic. The music and score wasn't dramatic at all, but it was good not bad at all. With its cinematography and sound this movie was very watchable despite its slow pace.

Another implausable movie about a Mom and 2 kids in a house that's own by her Parents (since dead) but unfortunately this movie offers nothing new to the Kidnapping Genrea!

Don't let the strong female lead fool you. This thriller is as mediocre as they come, with the worst type of syntheic tension, drawn out scenes and a paper thin plot without any substance.

‘Breaking In' Breaks Our Spirit With a Lame, Tame Home-Invasion Debacle
  • Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
"Breaking in" is a home invasion thriller that showcases some good acting from Gabriel Union and if you have a couple hours to waste it's ok for that but the film as a whole provides nothing new to the genre. Bad guys want something in the home and the mayhem ensues, overall not really much action basically just going in circles for 2 hours.

I found a great invasion film, an excellent script, very good characters, and a great cast.

I really enjoyed this. The characters are all believable and well acted. I loved seeing a strong, black, leading woman kick butt all on her own, but Union was too good for this B Grade movie. Can we get a super-hero movie with Union as the lead please? Maybe a Supergirl reprise!! Now that would be something she'd really kick ass in!
