John Boyega's performance here was amazing. The rest of the movie could have been delivered better. It was actually a little bit boring.

Pretty much all down to JB, this has periods that are truly engaging, but it lacks real drive and motivation, and so falls short on delivering any suspense, or empathy with the main character (and therefore any of the other characters)... A shame in many ways, especially as this is a true story

This movie is straight trash. Wasted two hours of my night. SMH

    Very good emotional movie.

This was truly good and I would definitely watch it again.

A weak imitation of John Q, absolutely forgettable. John Boyega tries to emulate Denzel Washington, but the script gives him little to work with, leaving the supporting characters hollow and disconnected. Moreover, the motivations behind the actions are merely sketched out, resulting in a film that lacks real emotional impact.

More of a drama than action movie. I guess the intention is to set focus on the poor treatment some veterans receive. Based on on true story.

Movie had a slow start towards the end it started to get really intense. The movie overall is really sad and eye opening

Based on a true story, the screenplay is really rather bland. Boyega did his best Denzel impression, but unfortunately Beharie overacted her role and broke immersion pretty badly. Her defiant character is too much and doesn't feel like how a real person would emote. Leyva, in contrast, captured her vulnerability.

Based on a tragically unnecessary true event, Breaking is not a feel-good movie. But it also didn't feel like a waste of time, as it shone the spotlight on a long-standing issue with the U.S. government and the far too many times it lets its veterans down, driving many of them to take desperate measures such as suicide, among other things. One of those "other things" is demonstrated in this film as it tells the story of the 2017 bank hostage event carried out by a former Marine Corps veteran, Brian Brown-Easley, who is in financial trouble (due to the VA not carrying through with assistance) and decides to rob a bank. But it's not a typical bank robbery. He just wants the VA to deliver to him what they owe. You can imagine the rest of the story. This is equal parts infuriating and heartbreaking. John Boyega pulls off a solid performance here, as always, and it was bittersweet to see Michael Kenneth Williams in what was one of his final roles. Recommended.
